The Clinical Bridge:
Neurobiological Signaling and Somatic Marker Analysis for Clinician Self-Regulation
An Evidence-Informed Course for Mental Health Professionals
Program Overview:
The ICIMHP Mission & Program Description
The Mission: "The Integrated Clinical Intuition Method for Mental Health Professionals (ICIMHP) provides an evidence-informed framework that bridges the gap between the practicalities of clinical intuition and clinical mental health therapy. Our mission is to translate and enhance intuitive healing tools into measurable professional competencies—such as Interoceptive Awareness and ANS Regulation—equipping clinicians with somatic tools to fortify their presence and deepen the therapeutic alliance."
The Framework: "The ICIMHP curriculum represents over 20 years of clinical observation, bridging the gap between humanistic 'therapeutic presence' and modern neurobiology. Founded by author and SME Hilary Crowley, our methodology provides licensed professionals with the tools to translate somatic markers into actionable clinical data, dating back to longitudinal case studies initiated in hospital-based settings in 2004.
● Primary Focus: Clinician self-regulation and the "Self of the Therapist.”
● Total Instructional Hours: 4.0 Contact Hours.
● Investment: $120.00
Core Curriculum & Learning Objectives
Participants engage with a "bridging language" that translates energetic concepts into clinical neurobiology. Primary focus areas include:
● The Science of Safety: Applying Polyvagal Theory foundations to understand Ventral Vagal states (Clinical Presence) and the role of co-regulation.
● The Somatic Signaling System: Utilizing Damasio’s Somatic Markers to identify pre-conscious physiological "hunches" and clarify healing messages.
● The Radiant Focus Method: Practicing the psycho-physical approach of Michael Chekhov to manually activate the Ventral Vagal state and prevent "Somatic Contagion”.
About the Presenting Facilitator: Hilary Crowley
Hilary is an Integrative Health Specialist and Subject Matter Expert with over 20 years of documented clinical observation in hospital and private practice settings. Her career in medical education includes coordinating Continuing Education for Pediatric Residency Programs at UMass Memorial and Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHAD), followed by five years at Exeter Hospital. Since 2009, she has been part of a multidisciplinary integrative family medicine center at Whole Life Health Care in Portsmouth, NH.
As a researcher of somatic signaling, Hilary has documented case studies dating back to hospital-based events in 2004, which serve as the empirical foundation for the ICIMHP methodology. She is the author of the Silver Nautilus award-winning book The Power of Energy Medicine (2021) and is a 2025 TEDx speaker on the neurobiological and emotional landscapes of the foster parent experience. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between humanistic "therapeutic presence" and modern neurobiological frameworks to enhance clinician resilience and patient outcomes.
Professional Standards & Disclosures (Policy C.15)
Non-Discrimination: ICIMHP does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
ADA Accessibility: ICIMHP is committed to providing accessible learning environments. For digital programs, we provide closed captioning and accessible slide materials. For in-person events, all venues are vetted for ADA accessibility. To request specific accommodations, please contact hilary@hilarycrowley.com at least 10 days prior to the event.
Refund Policy: Participants may request a full refund up to 7 days prior to the start of a live event.
Grievance Policy: Written grievances should be submitted to the Lead Facilitator; unresolved matters are escalated to the Program Administrator, Dr. Kathleen Fallon, for final clinical mediation.
Conflict of Interest: Hilary Crowley discloses her proprietary interest as the author of The Power of Energy Medicine; however, the curriculum is strictly evidence-informed and focused on professional skill-building.
Section 1: The 4-Hour Curriculum
Hour 1 | The Clinical Bridge: Somatic Signaling
This session establishes a common language between somatic interception and clinical neurobiology. We examine the Somatic Marker Hypothesis to understand how the nervous system utilizes automated physiological signals to bias behavior before conscious thought occurs.
• Takeaways: Moving from "hunch" to evidence-informed interoceptive awareness.
Hour 2 | The Diagnostic Conundrum: Case Analysis
Through a deep dive into clinical case studies, including the foundational "Woman Who Could Only Eat Fish," practitioners will analyze how pre-conscious biological signals can impact diagnostic conclusions.
• Takeaways: Identifying and interpreting physiological "bracing" as valid clinical data.
Hour 3 | The Self of the Therapist: Unconditional Positive Regard
Shifting the focus to the practitioner's internal state, we apply Carl Rogers' Unconditional Positive Regard as a direct tool for self-regulation. By applying this framework to the "Self of the Therapist," clinicians learn to maintain a regulated anchor in high-intensity sessions.
• Takeaways: Clinical presence as a primary indicator of professional integrity and burnout prevention.
Hour 4 | The Power of Play: Somatic Integration
We conclude by bridging somatic awareness with Bessel van der Kolk's research on the neurobiology of play. Participants explore how shifting into a "radiant" or playful focus can facilitate somatic release and break through "frozen" trauma states.
• Takeaways: Utilizing the Radiant Focus Method to foster neurobiological resources for trauma processing.
